Upon close inspection, Comet Hale-Bopp showed detail in the gas tail, and hoods near the nucleus (not visible in this image).

Technical Notes:  Slight trailing is visible in this image, probably due to flexure of the camera body on the piggyback mount during the exposure and/or tracking errors from the telescope's drive.
